The Fuzzy Front End Innovation in Social Media Era: The Roles of Business Ecosystem and Knowledge Ambidexterity

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of the business ecosystem and knowledge ambidexterity capability on fuzzy front-end innovation in the context of social media. This study also explores the moderating role of social media capability in the relationships of the business ecosystem, knowledge ambidexterity capability, and fuzzy front-end innovation. The researchers divided the social media capability into two constructs: external social media capability and internal social media capability, by which the researchers aimed to attain a deeper insight. A total of 162 valid questionnaires were collected from 1,243 companies awarded by the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Taiwan. The results show that both business ecosystem and knowledge ambidexterity have positive effects on fuzzy front-end innovation performance. The business ecosystem also shows a positive influence on knowledge ambidexterity. In addition, the results show that both external and internal social media capability have a significant positive moderating effect on the business ecosystem and knowledge ambidexterity capability. However, the positive moderating effect of internal social media capability between knowledge ambidexterity capability and fuzzy front-end innovation is not significant.
